Cradle to Cradle (C2C) has taken the world by storm the past few years. The principle is based on the notion that materials can be endlessly recycled. This is, however, subject to the moment when a product needs to be reused being taken into account in the design phase of the product concerned.
C2C will mean that there will no longer be any waste that cannot be used again and materials will no longer be downcycled. Instead, materials will retain their value and waste will become ‘fuel’. Large companies such as Ford, Nike, AkzoNobel and Herman Miller have been working based on the Cradle to Cradle philosophy for many years. LDM has significant ambitions with regard to sustainability and C2C has, therefore, been included in the corporate strategy.
The workshop with Braungart during which representatives of the Municipality, the Province and the Water Board were present has reinforced LDM’s confidence that the company is on the right track. Nevertheless, LDM wants to take a considerable number of additional steps during the coming period. Having partnerships with all the parties involved will continue to be given the highest of priorities. |
